Perhaps in the darkness of these troubling times it is useful to go back to the last era in recent history when there was hope, joy and optimism for the future. That era was the sixties and love showed the way.

And just maybe, there are some clues there for what to do now.

So, how did it happen that consciousness went cosmic?

The 1960s were a very idealistic age. Some of this was channeled into movements such as civil rights, anti-war, social action, but even more was directed at exploring and creating new lifestyles, new ways of living, being and doing. These efforts and dreams led to places like California’s Haight Ashbury and numerous communal situations but also spread its seeds to small towns and big cities world wide and even to out of the way places like Taos, New Mexico. (And these seeds are part of the creation of the Fountain of Light.)

But to go back to those times and understand them, one has to start with the basics.

The Assumptions

You were a part of a revolution, a world wide movement to create a new and better society that embodied the principles that this country was founded on.

You could change, and if you could, anyone could.
You could listen and learn from anyone.
You were willing to work hard.
You could learn the skills needed for the new society.

You were willing to share everything.
You were willing to confront your hang-ups.
You were willing to live your intuition.

You could overcome.
You could make a difference.
You could live your spirituality.
You could live your dreams.
You could get out of your head and into your heart.
You could be - the child within.

You could end nuclear weapons, war, poverty, racial discrimination.
You could end the destruction of the environment.

You could have clean air and clean water.
You could bring children into the world.
You could put aside your prejudices.
You could have one world - one consciousness.

You believed in the essential goodness of people.

Everyone could have peace and plenty.

Your color, age, sex, religion, education, family, money, clothing, looks did not matter.
Your willingness and dedication did.

Your life did have meaning.
You could make a difference.

You did not have to live against nature.
You did not have to work for a corporation or business that was destructive.
You did not have to support war or the government engaged in it.

You did not have to listen to those who said you were young, dumb, phony or wrong.
You did have to be tolerant and respectful - but not at the expense of the truth.

Ideals like Free and Love and Peace could be lived responsibly.

If you lived this - You would be supported and taken care of.
You could do your thing – in this context.

You would not give up.

You would win!

(To be continued...)
