In response to the question asked by local residents, why are there outsiders, newcomers “Hippies” coming to this area, I would like to attempt an explanation. Please note that I speak only for myself and my family and do not contend to make a group statement.

Sure, some of our ways are different. We are a definite and distressing change from the way things are. Perhaps, though, a little patience and tolerance will reveal that we are above all, men of good will and that much of the change we wrought is positive.

While it might be said we are fleeing the deplorable conditions of contamination of the urban areas, both physical and spiritual, the real motivation seems to be a quest for a more natural way of life. Away form the plastic and purifying conditions in the cities. We mean to establish for ourselves new life styles that are basically simple and agrarian. Our concern is with the real. Real Food, grown by ourselves for the most part, real and useful products produced by heads, hands and hearts. Expressions in art forms that manifest individual energies of human beings rather than the faceless and soulless work of a mechanized existence. To plant and cultivate and to ultimately harvest worth while things from joyous labors, this is what we are about. Some of us come to Taos because it is a real place, with real and meaningful history and traditions, isolated in a sense and abounding in nature. It is a ruggedly beautiful place that offers us a change to reacquaint ourselves with our planet earth.

Sure some of our ways are different. We are a definite and distressing change from the way things are. Perhaps, though, a little patience and tolerance will reveal that we are above all, men of good will and that much of the change we wrought is positive an welcomed. We are not reformers and do not seek directly to influence social or political order, but only to be unmolested and live our lives in peace an let these lives speak for themselves. Words change little, action changes everything.

It is said that all of us are children of the Aquarian Age, a time in mans existence that brings on evolvement and it is also said that now is the time to live and love, a change we all desperately need.

Christ said he was the son of the Father and that we are all brothers. We need and mean to get it on and love you, brother.

Viva me hermanos!
