Joining together in solidarity with the - thousands of people expected to flood Washington DC (and all around the country) to demand a halt to the construction of Transcanada's Keystone XL Tar Sands Pipeline - the Denver event captured the spirit of beginning days of the Occupy movement. Though sponsored by 350.org, The Sierra Club and the Hip Hop Caucus - the protest was endorsed and publicized by Occupy Denver which helped provide a big turnout. Between 3 and 400 hundred people, most dressed in black, took part, many marching from the Auraria campus up Broadway to Civic Center Park where they participated in an "oil spill - or oil blob". Then the demonstrators gathered in the amphitheater.
The day was very spring like and festive though serious and focused on the critical environmental decision expected soon. It is hoped that the president will back up his encouraging words about climate issues by taking direct action to stop this environment crime, the Keystone Pipeline.
