In 2001, the U.N. General Assembly passed a resolution calling on people to mark Sept. 21 as a day of cease-fires and nonviolence.
Peace One Day is asking the people of the world to honour and celebrate the Day with the vision of the Day extending far beyond the cessation of violent conflict and representing an opportunity for the people of the world to create a moment of global unity.
Peace One Day is a UK based organization started by British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley. Launched in 1999, Peace One Day initiatiated the establishment of the United Nations International Day of Peace, as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence.
They are asking people to make a commitment to peace.

One commitment is the song - Peace One Day -
Former Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart and reggae great Jimmy Cliff want to unite the world in song - at least for one day.
The story - The musicians want radio stations around the world to play the song - Peace One Day on September 21,the United Nations-designated International Day of Peace.
"The idea was to make a song that on September 21 we'll get as many radio stations around the world to play and DJs to talk about what it's about" said Stewart, who said he began to work on the track after last year's Sept. 11 Terrorist attacks. "We're not really making a single that wer're trying to get in the charts" he said. "It's an idea to uplift people."
