OCCUPY

OCCUPY
April 22, 2012 (Earth Day) - Photos Occupy Denver
A calm and peaceful observance of Earth Day at the state capital building. At the same time there was a real concern for the future of civilization on the planet because of the widespread environmental destruction due to abuses such as fracking, wars, pollution as well as the lack of dedication to changing priorities on both a local and international level.

A very pleasant day - mild and sunny changing to clouds in Lincoln Park for the Occupy "Tax Justice Day". (Talks and information - to inform and educate on the injustice that tax systems impose upon the community.) At the same time buttons were being sold to raise bail money for arrested occupiers. (The ACLU of Colorado has requested a formal investigation of the Denver Police Department's conduct with Occupy Denver during the past six and a half months so one has to consider the charge of police harassment very seriously.)

April 7, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
Another beautiful day with mild temperatures and plenty of sun for the occupiers in Lincoln Park. Unfortunately the Denver authorities came by the previous day and picked up much of the campers bedding, supplies and personal items including medicines. So the mood along the row was slightly wary. Plus Monday morning the recently arrested members of the Occupy community go on trial on dubious charges - after spending three weeks in jail.

March 31, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
A hot and dry March brought unusually warm temperatures (upper 70's) to the occupiers in Lincoln Park across from Civic Center Park which is closed for renovations. It was a mostly uneventful day except for a brief visit by the Denver Fire Department paramedics stopping to check out a man on the sidewalk who cut his hand.

March 24, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
A beautiful spring day in Denver with temperatures in the seventies for the Rally & March Against Police Brutality and Harassment. After meeting in Lincoln Park (the original Occupy location) for a Teach In and discussion - the group proceeded down the 16th Street Mall and around to the Denver Police Administration Building.

March 17, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
St. Patrick's Day in downtown Denver and very quiet at the Occupy Area in Civic Center Park. But the background is that the Denver police have been involved all week in a concerted effort to shut down the movement by harassing and arresting its supporters, especially those holding the ground at the park.

March 10, 2012 - "Occupy The Hot Zone" Photos
The event this Saturday moved to the Suncor Refinery "toxic waste site" in Commerce City near 64th and York Streets. The gathering wanted to shed light on the continued abuse through dumping of harmful petroleum by-products including benzene on both the local water supply as well as the destruction of the interface of Sand Creek and The Platt River, land, fish, birds and nature.

"Almost a spring day with temperatures in the high 40's but windy as the Saturday march assembled in Civic Center Park and proceeded down the 16th Street Mall with stops at HM store and the Suncor Headquarters on 17th Street and back to the park and the statue of Christopher Columbus.

February 18, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
A warm, sunny February day, temperatures in the low 50's for Saturday and protesting. Few people on the curb with signs but the"row" of 24-7 occupiers continue the quest to make it through the winter. A steady stream of people came by to talk, engage and support. Sightseers in cars and buses flowed by along with a class of young photographers recording the moment.

February 11, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
A very cold day in Denver, temperatures hovering in the low twenties and due to the recent snow from last night more dampness,too...Meanwhile the "row" keeps its post with occupiers and homeless people still sleeping on the sidewalk on Broadway, between the Civic Center and the Capitol. And the police are still watching and waiting - for the next thing.

February 4, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
After a 12 inch dump of snow on the city yesterday and last night, a very small presence for Occupy on Saturday. The sun came and went through the clouds, the snow melted and the beat went on. Very impressive were the large number of Occupy and homeless still sleeping on the "row" on the sidewalk. Donations of food continue to show up. A very pretty day and a crisp and satisfying experience as passers by stopped and talked and cars beeped support.

January 28, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
Another January day in Denver with cold air but sunny and slightly warm for Saturday and Occupy. No march today but a good day for hanging out, waving signs and hearing the local news including about a protest yesterday at Buckley Air Base where Obama spoke.

OCCUPY
January 21, 2012 - Occupy Denver Photos
The theme for Saturdays gathering was "Mourning for Civil Liberties" and funeral attire with props such as tombstones and coffins recommended. The turnout was good, at least a hundred people, mostly dressed in black and very lively.

OCCUPY
January 14, 2012 - Denver Occupy Photos
Very mild in Denver, temperatures in the high 50's but a smattering of snow in the ground. Across the street from Civic Center Park, in front of the Capital, missionaries were giving out food to the homeless. The Saturday march was enthusiastic but small, maybe fifty people.

Occupy Denver - General Assembly 1/7/12
General Assembly in Civic Center Park: A very cold day in the park. Some snow. A big circle. Participatory democracy in action. A short explanation of hand signals that help keep the discourse civil and concentrated. Then on to the issues brought forward prior to the meeting. Most impressive - the love and clarity of the participants.
